Your Body

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Drinking water is so important for good health. Did you know that your body is estimated to be about 70 percent water? You certainly need water to provide the means for nutrients to your body. So how much water do you need to drink for a healthier you? A pretty good estimate is to take your body weight (lbs.) and divide that number in half. This will give you the number of ounces of water per day that you need to drink. A little bit of the water you need comes from the food we eat, but the majority we need from glasses of water. It may be a little tough to drink enough water on a busy day. Make sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle for water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. If you get bored with plain water, remember, you can always add a bit of lemon or lime for a touch of flavor.

Pearly Whites

Having healthy teeth isn’t just about brushing and flossing those pearly whites, it’s the total package. Electronic toothbrushes, although slightly more expensive, do a way better job of cleaning your teeth. You should floss at least once daily, avoid smoking, and chew gum that contains a sugar substitute after your meals, if you can’t brush. Amazingly enough, maintaining a good diet is also a major factor in the healthiness of your teeth. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables to promote healthy gums. Milk, yogurt and cottage cheese, help fight against tooth decay. Of course getting those semi-annual checkups is also a great preventative!

Have you ever looked at someone and realized they had a special glow? Would you like to achieve that healthy-looking glow? When we feel good, we take much better care of ourselves than usual. Looking good is one thing; feeling good is everything! Your skin is more than just an outer shell, it can tell a story! Make sure to get a regular skin regimen, which should include: cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and protecting (SPF). Other tips are to drink plenty of water, get some rest, and of course eat a balanced diet and exercise. Avoid tanning beds, and opt for sunless tanning products. Stop smoking, because it is known that smoking is damaging to the skin. It may seem like a lot of “steps” to follow, but once you start your routine, it’ll be as easy as 123!

Don’t fret about Traveling!

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Although consumer spending may have decreased during this economic meltdown, surprisingly enough, there are some great places to travel that won’t break the bank! Besides, you owe it to yourself to take a nice vacation amid the chaos. There are other countries whose dollar is also weakening, and to our advantage a great time to visit these places! Fly away and take a WestJet Vacation to Iceland, where there’s only about 5 hours of daylight, but the scenery is unforgettable. You may also want to check out our friendly neighbor…Canada! Plan a nice little ski trip and hit the slopes at a fraction of the typical cost! Don’t forget to head down under to Australia, and explore the barrier reefs, Blue Mountains, and of course the Taronga Zoo!

Skip the Soda

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Did you know that drinking a soda even just every other day can add about 8lbs. to your weight? Research has also shown that drinking soda can sometimes lead to osteoporosis. And no, soda does not directly make you gain weight, but soda can clog up your digestive system; and the excessive amounts of sugar can and will turn into fat.

If you really want to improve your diet, you should nix the soda, and start depending on H2O. Water is everywhere you go, and the best part is that there are no calories!! If you find it hard to drink water, because you think it’s “boring,” try a sparkling water or flavored water with a low amount of sugar. There are so many options that can help you quit the soda and become healthier, without “sacrificing” that extra flavor, so go ahead and drink up!
